Tony Sirico, the renowned actor and older brother of Acton Institute co-founder and president emeritus, Rev. Robert A. Sirico, passed away on July 8, 2022. He was 79 years old.

Sirico was best known for his role as “Paulie Walnuts” Gualtieriin HBO’sThe Sopranos, for which he won twoScreen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He had more than 80 acting credits to his name, including in such famous and celebrated films asThe Godfather Part II, Goodfellas, Mickey Blue Eyes, and Bullets Over Broadway. Tony’s other passions included helping raise awareness and support for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In 2004, along with Sopranos costar James Gandolfini, he took part in a USO tour to visit troops stationed in the Persian Gulf.

In 2010, Tony Sirico was a special guest at the Acton Institute’s 20th Annual Dinner, introducing his younger brother, Fr. Robert, before a gathered crowd of Acton supporters. He was his inimitable, and memorable, self.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Acton Institute are with Fr. Robert and the entire Sirico family.
